Embracing this shift in nature of interaction is Void Deck 3.0, our Mixed Reality systemic framework that aims to bring back the sense of place identity to void decks which has abraded over time, using holograms, preconditioned upon the existing physicality of void deck spaces.

Placemaking, virtually, is achieved by bridging the physical gap between neighbours using the HoloLens. Residents will participate in interactive and experiential holographic events, all experienced through the HoloLens. The community not only participates, but is also involved in the creation process through participatory design of the events.

The technological system comprises a mobile app (DECK), the HoloLens and residents’ active involvement. DECK is a public engagement platform that: publishes and curates community-submitted events, gathers community feedback and analyses participatory data through an in-built analytic tool – the Virtual Neighbourship Matrix. Holographic events envisaged through co-creation with residents would be planned procedurally through HoloLens’ spatial mapping capabilities.
